Background: Elaine Walker took part in the NASA Haughton-Mars Project (HMP) in 2003 and 2004 and is currently on Devon Island for the 2008 field season doing Education & Public Outreach for the Mars Institute. Her stay this field season is from July 13 through August 15, 2008.

Space Frontier Foundation Mars Projects

The NASA HMP's Arthur Clarke Mars Greenhouse, sponsored by SpaceRef.com, hosted a research experiment led by Dr. Alain Berinstain (Canadian Space Agency/University of Guelph).

The DAME drill is made for NASA by Honeybee Robotics, who also built the Rock Abrasion Tool on the current Mars Exploration Rovers

The NASA Haughton-Mars Project is headquartered at NASA Ames Research Center and is managed jointly by the SETI Institute and the Mars Institute.


Elaine is the Education and Public Outreach coordinator for the Mars Institute, and the Mars Projects Manager for the Space Frontier Foundation.

Background:


In 2003 Elaine was commissioned by the NASA HMP to record a music video on Devon Island to promote the idea of humans living on Mars. "Martians" is the title track for ZIA's new CD which was officially released at the XPrize Cup in Las Cruces, NM in 2006. The "Martians" video enjoys thousands of plays on YouTube, Myspace, and Blip.tv.


In 2003 Elaine kept a photo journal during the field season as a representative of the Space Frontier Foundation.
